Finalist, Candelo Urban Link

Spika Mimarlık’ın TerraViva tarafından düzenlenen “Candelo Urban Link” yarışması için tasarladığı “Silent Threshold” projesi.

Yarışmada finalist olarak seçilen proje, kentsel mekânda geçiş kavramını yalnızca fiziksel bir bağlantı problemi olarak değil, deneyimsel bir eşik olarak ele alan yaklaşımıyla öne çıkıyor. Tasarım, farklı kotlar arasında kesintisiz bir akış kurarken, bu hareketi kullanıcıyı mekânla yeniden ilişki kurmaya davet eden bir mekânsal kurguya dönüştürmeyi amaçlıyor.

SILENT THRESHOLD

Not a passage, but a spatial awareness

Cities often produce surfaces that are merely passed through. Roads, ramps, stairs, and bridges carry people from one point to another, while most of these journeys remain unnoticed. Space is used, but rarely felt. Silent Threshold stands against this invisibility.

This project aims to make visible the relationship between two different worlds rather than simply overcoming a level difference. It creates an in-between space between the fast, dynamic character of the upper level and the calm, green atmosphere of the lower level. This space does not impose an abrupt break; instead, it prepares, guides, and gently invites the user into awareness.

The ramp, forming the main backbone of the project, is not merely an access route. It is a rhythm extending through the site. A spatial flow that accompanies the pace of the human body, sometimes expanding to allow breathing, sometimes narrowing to provide direction. As users move along this line, their tempo shifts unconsciously; their gaze changes, and they reconnect with space.

The lower level is not a residual area left beneath the upper ground. It is the most tranquil layer of the project. Green textures, walking paths, and areas for play and rest form a living landscape. What is crossed above is lived below. The wooden stage and open-air theater create a cultural memory within this landscape. Small performances, gatherings, and everyday encounters allow the site to develop its own rhythm over time.

The sports field establishes a parallel relationship with the ramp, reinforcing the continuity of movement. The demountable viewing platform in front of it acts not as a fixed structure, but as a flexible companion adapting to the changing nature of the space. It softens the boundary between watching and participating.

The structural language of the project is based on deliberate simplicity. It is calm, restrained, and measured. Architecture withdraws here, allowing space, nature, and human presence to come forward. Removable and reconfigurable elements enable the site to evolve over time.

Silent Threshold does not produce an object. It creates a condition. It transforms transition into experience. It slows rather than accelerates, encourages reflection rather than control. It establishes a subtle yet lasting field of awareness within the city.

This project proposes a public infrastructure that values pausing as much as connecting, and feeling as much as moving.
