4. Ödül, New Museum of Architecture and Design Competition

“Tyrsky” projesi, Finlandiya’nın Helsinki şehrinde yapılacak olan yeni Mimarlık ve Tasarım Müzesi için açılan yarışmada 4.’lük ödülünü kazandı.
Helsinki’nin tarihi Güney Limanı’ndaki sahil şeridinde yapılması planlanan 10.050 metrekarelik yeni bir müze binasının 2030 yılı sonlarında halka açılmayı hedefliyor.
Finlandiya’nın yeni Mimarlık ve Tasarım Müzesi, “tasarım araçlarını demokratikleştirme” temel misyonuyla 900.000’den fazla eserden oluşan bir koleksiyonu uluslararası bir kültür kurumu bünyesinde bir araya getiriyor.

The building is clad in zinc sheet metal and composed of rectangular volumes, enclosing a small central courtyard that brings daylight into the interior. Its undulating, crested roof draws inspiration from the sea and its rhythms, while both the load-bearing structures and interior surfaces are crafted in solid wood.
In Stage 1, the jury found the building’s massing well integrated with the cityscape, with exhibition spaces functioning efficiently for museum needs. The jury requested that, in Stage 2, the designers refine the building’s closed façades and address the somewhat lacklustre character of the interiors.
In Stage 2, the refined proposal demonstrates a stronger architectural identity. The façade and entrance facing Market Square have become more inviting, and a number of commendable interior improvements have been added. However, the building still does not open sufficiently in all directions. Its orientation toward Laivasillankatu remains closed, and the issue of excessive height was not resolved in the pre-Stage 2 refinements. On the positive side, the proposal ranks among the best in the competition in terms of carbon footprint and energy efficiency.
