The Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources, in collaboration with the Beijing Institute of Architects, announces the launch of an international architectural design competition for the Yong Ding Chang’an Pavilion in Beijing, China.
Endorsed by the International Union of Architects (UIA), the competition will be conducted in accordance with the UNESCO Standard Regulations for International Competitions in Architecture and Town Planning and UIA best-practice recommendations.
Conceived as a pre-event and pilot project for the 30th UIA World Congress of Architects to be held in Beijing in 2029, the competition invites young architects worldwide to propose an innovative pavilion within a significant urban and ecological context.
The project is located along the Yong Ding River waterfront, at the intersection of key urban, ecological and cultural axes, including the West Extension of Chang’an Avenue, the Winter Olympics Park and historic heritage sites. It adopts an “urban acupuncture” approach, combining landscape and architectural strategies to enhance connectivity, activate public space and strengthen the relationship between natural and built environments.
The international jury will be composed of five members:

Participants may anonymously send any enquiries regarding the competition brief via the official competition platform (https://biacompetition.com) before the specified deadline.
The competition organiser reserves the right to address similar questions together. All replies will be compiled into a Q&A Summary Document. to the email addresses of all registered participants by the designated date, and simultaneously published on the official website.
Questions must be submitted anonymously and must not include any information that could identify the applicant. Any questions failing to meet these requirements will not be accepted, published, or answered.
This Q&A Summary shall serve as an official supplementary document to the competition brief.
The total prize money available for the competition is €65,000
Prizes are not subject to VAT. Please note that all prize money stated above is pre-tax amounts.
For winners that are entities or individuals located within China, the organizer shall withhold and remit the relevant taxes on their behalf. For overseas entities or individuals, tax matters shall be handled in accordance with bilateral tax treaties and applicable Chinese tax laws and regulations. If there is any tax or charge imposed by the authorities that is not strictly attributable to the winning individual or entity, the organiser will ensure that the winner’s prize is exempt from such charges.
1st prize €35,000 and a certificate

3rd prize €10,000 and a certificate
The jury may also decide to allocate honourable mentions to proposals of particular merit.
Honourable mentions will not carry a monetary prize.
Prizes will be awarded within 30 days of the announcement of the winners, with the total prize money paid in full. Ex aequo prizes will not be awarded. The number of prizes announced will be awarded.
