Küratörlüğünü David Chipperfield'ın üstlendiği bu seneki bienalin teması "Common Ground".
Bu sene bienale Kosova, Kuveyt ve Peru gibi ülkeler ilk defa katılıyor. Onlar ile birlikte katılımcı ülke sayısı 41'e ulaşmış oluyor.
Her sene olduğu gibi 2012'de de Arsenale, Giardini'deki pavyonlar ve Venedik'teki diğer mekanlar sergilere ev sahipliği yapacak.
