Archtober

Archtober, 1 - 31 Ekim 2011 tarihleri arasında New York'ta gerçekleşecek.

Archtober is New York’s Architecture and Design Month, a festival of architectural design activities, programs and exhibitions taking place during the month of October.

Mission
Archtober presents special tours, lectures, films and exhibitions that focus on the importance of architecture and design in everyday life. The many participating organizations aim to raise awareness of the important role of design in our city and to build a lasting civic and international recognition of the richness of New York’s built environment. Special programming every day of the month and access to sites, and their architects, will bring new audiences to all of the participating organizations — all of whom are committed to New York and promoting design excellence.

History
New York City’s Architecture Week was founded in 2003 when the AIA New York Chapter (AIANY) opened the doors of the Center for Architecture and openhousenewyork (OHNY) opened our city to architecture aficionados, the general public and visitors from around the world. For the past eight years, Architecture Week took place in the second week of October and has included an opening of the Center for Architecture’s fall exhibition, an AIANY Member’s Show displayed in the West 4th Street subway station, and AIANY’s Heritage Ball and Party@theCenter. The Week concluded with OHNY’s Weekend Launch Party and the Annual OHNY Weekend, which welcomes 200,000 visitors to 350 talks, tours, site-specific performances and family programs each year. In 2010, the Architecture & Design Film Festival hosted its first New York event the following week. These events inspired Architecture Week to grow into a month-long celebration, Archtober, and now includes a larger collective of local architecture and design organizations to further emphasize and promote the importance of architecture and design in New York City.
